Faculty Spotlight – Dr. Carrie DeJaco
Meet Dr. Carrie DeJaco, Pfeiffer鈥檚 associate professor of biology and environmental science! Dr. DeJaco has been a professor for 17 years, 6 of which have been at Pfeiffer. Dr. DeJaco teaches a variety of classes relating to wildlife and the environment, including Intro to Environmental Science, Field Botany, and Wildlife and Conservation Biology.
Learning about wildlife is what got Dr. DeJaco interested in her field. She loved learning about all the cool creatures that can be found in nature, how those creatures live, and how they all interact with each other. When it comes to her classes, Dr. DeJaco hopes that students will walk away with 鈥渁 curiosity about the world around them, and an interest in learning more about the creatures with whom we share the planet.鈥�
Dr. DeJaco has given numerous talks to many different groups within the area about plants and wildlife, and how they interact with one another and us. When asked about what she has done recently in her field, Dr. DeJaco said, 鈥淚 just updated and revised Pfeiffer’s environmental major programs such that students now can concentrate their studies on the natural world, environmental education, business, or humans’ interactions. I think these different concentrations will provide more opportunities for students to focus their studies on what is most interesting to them and relevant to their career paths.鈥�
