Faculty Spotlight – Austin Rose ’21
Meet Austin Rose 鈥21, Pfeiffer鈥檚 Assistant Professor of Sport Management. Rose started teaching two years ago, after he received his Master鈥檚 in Sport Management from Wingate University. He teaches various courses, including Principles of Sport Management, Current Topics and Emerging Trends in Sport, The History and Sociology of Sport, Facility and Event Management, Sport Marketing, and Sport Analytics.
As a former student-athlete, Rose has remained passionate about sports. He decided to pursue a degree in sport management, so that he could learn practical skills that could be used within the sport industry.
When asked about what he would like for his students to take away from his classes, Rose said, 鈥淲orking in sports can be both fun and challenging. I hope that in their progression through Pfeiffer’s sport management program, students learn in-demand skills such as creativity, collaboration, written and oral communication, and critical thinking. I learned many career preparation strategies from my now colleague, Dr. Mary Beth Chambers, that I hope to continue to share and reinforce through this program.鈥
Before teaching, Rose worked with the Carolina Panthers, the Charlotte Knights, and the Charlotte Hornets. He also worked several of the Charlotte FC first matches. When talking about his experience, Rose said, 鈥淲orking in four professional leagues, interning in college athletics, and coaching at the high school level allows me to bring a well-diversified background to the Sport Management program, which is a great advantage for my students.鈥
Rose recently partnered his Facility and Event Management class with the Pfeiffer Athletic Department to collect cans for the USA South Conference 鈥淐ans Across the Conference鈥 canned food drive. 鈥淭he students planned and hosted pre-game, in-game, and post-game events for two women’s soccer games and two volleyball games. Through their efforts they collected well over 200 cans and were able to experience the event management planning process in a hands on manner,鈥 said Rose.
